Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO) and Answer Engine Optimisation (AEO) are the practices of making your content more likely to be cited by AI search systems — ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, and Gemini. Unlike traditional SEO, AI systems retrieve and synthesise passages rather than ranking whole pages, so the signals that drive citation rates are different from those that drive blue-link rankings.
This database tracks tactics across five categories: content structure, technical access, authority signals, off-page signals, and platform-specific optimisation. Each tactic is scored against four factors — source credibility, independence, recency, and research consensus — before it is published. Tactics with fewer than three independent sources are flagged as insufficient evidence rather than presented as confirmed.
